ballard designs inspired topiary

My first project of the year was to take a 99 cent thrift store topiary and turn it into a ballard designs inspired topiary.

This was the topiary in it's original state when I plucked it from the shelf at Goodwill.  I knew underneath all that fake fruit there was some great potential.  And for 99 cents I just couldn't pass it up!

I have wanted to try my hand at making a topiary for sometime now and thought it was fun to make.  And I have to say that I am loving the new look of my thrift store topiary!

funny sidenote: When I was making my topiary hubs kept referring to it as a chia-pet. And then when I went to show him my finished topiary he said, "So are toparies in style now?  Were they ever actually in-style?"  I took him over to my laptop and showed him my inspiration topiary from Ballard Designs.  I told him if they sell them, then by golly they sure the heck are in style.  Boys!!

That is SO cute !! I love anything Ballard, but don't care for the prices most of the time (lol). Very creative, and you found the perfect spot for it. Becca (Adventures in Decorating)

Okay seriously, the original shot is hilarious. I am sure it's not meant to be but I just can't imagine someone having that in their house. Now that it's all fixed up it's awesome!

The tutorial is really complete and helpful and what a great way to reinvent a sad little topiary. The cool thing is the topiary ball could be covered with ivy or moss or flower blooms to give even a different look. I'm inspired!
I'm also sharing your tutorial on my DIY roundup on Tuesday. Terrie
